Trucking is the only job anyone is doing because it’s the only job you can do solo that just barely breaks $1k for ~20 minutes of your time. Except it doesn’t always work — personally I refuse to do trucking anymore because many of the delivery locations are bugged, meaning you not only potentially waste your time, but also the $500 truck rental fee if you aren’t able to finish the job. Bringing this up in the support channel prompted a “Have you tried making a suggestion?” so here it is.
The economy feels like such a focal point that everything else — including whether or not you as the player are actually enjoying your time contributing to that economy — feels like an afterthought. The item durability is far too high, and even redundant and nonsensical for certain items — for example, water bottles and gym memberships shouldn’t decay after a couple of days — and so it serves as this constant reminder that everything costs, and everything is timed, and it just feels like there’s not enough money to go around. It might take you a week to accumulate enough funds to buy a car, and it might feel like a real accomplishment, only for you to then realize that you’ve already spent a week learning how to get around without a car anyway, and so now the purchase feels empty to some degree and only serves as a prop to show off rather than a functional utility. That pretty much sums up how every non-player interaction feels in CityLife. And as a result, there are (imo) less opportunities for quality roleplay, because everyone is too busy running around trying to scrounge up what little cash they can just to survive the day and feel like they’re better off than they were yesterday.
